Black and Navy Conundrum

Hi!

Pretty much my attitude towards general questions is that anything can be done. The subcategory of that 'anything' is that it has to be done well to fit your various categories, like figure, personal style, occasion appropriateness, etc.

So Amanda's quandary of black and navy, can it be done? OF COURSE! Anything is possible in the world of fashion. It just takes some maneuvering to ensure that it's done well. I don't favour a matchy matchy look, and tend not to approve of 'faux pas' rules like matching your belt, purse and shoes to ensure you look good. Please don't do this.

Here we have Mr Pitt and Angie-Jo sporting a couples answer to black and navy. As you can see their use of greys and browns pairs them up quite nicely.

Mixing black and navy together has been relevant for a few years now. If you're going to work it, now's your time! I would suggest a pop of a vibrant colour to distract and add to your look. Some sharp red, or cobalt blue (which it seems Amanda has done) or even canary yellow would zing things together fabulously and would distract from an ever apparent blend of black and navy, while adding in a personal touch.

Good luck with your ensemble, Amanda!

Service with a STYLE

Ok, so most of the time when you go into a retail store that caters to a relatively fashionable crowd, you expect to see some great style. The store that I went into yesterday has their staff wear all black, so that they can feature the shoes that they're selling. For some women, this is just how their style works, and it's all about the accessories, and I LOVE it.

The girls in this store (which will remain nameless) were great, but this girl's necklace really stood out to me. It was bright, and summery and FUN. And it seemed to really suit her, at least based on the little snippet of her personality that I got to see as I spent my latest paycheck...

When I told her about my blog, she said that she loved the concept, and that she believes that when you think something nice about someone, you should just come right out and say it. It's such a simple idea, but something that some of us find easier said than done.

I'm loving that the more people I talk to about this, the more people I realize really ARE aware of the people around them, and aren't afraid to let them know!
